Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about NMSU Giving Tuesday.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a nationally recognized day of philanthropy and is held the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.  Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for student-led, student-focused causes across the NMSU system to find their most passionate supporters who want to help. Starting on November 29th, all NMSU alumni and community supporters will come together for one common purpose — to celebrate these life-changing causes and give to make them last. Every gift, no matter how big or small, will impact the life of a student and the community as a whole.

How does the Foundation know if I am a new donor or an alumni?

The Foundation's gift accounting department analyzes each online gift to verify whether the donor is a graduate, long-time supporter, or a new donor. Staff members review name and address information (residence and business), graduation dates, and any other comments associated with the gift to correctly match the online donation with the correct donor.

Is it safe to make a gift online?

Yes!  The NMSU Foundation uses industry-standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to protect the confidentiality of your personal information. The NMSU Foundation adheres to the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the American Association of Fundraising Counsel, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. The purpose of the policy is to “assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support.

Can I make my donation via phone? Will my donation be matched if I make it by phone?

You may make a donation via phone during the Giving Tuesday campaign by calling (575) 646-1613 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. MST. Someone will answer to help you make your gift. However, in order for your donation to count toward any matches, your donation will need to be made online.

What if the fund I want to donate to is not listed?

No worries. You can make a gift of any size to any program affiliated with the NMSU system.

If the program you are looking for is not listed you can select "Support our Students" and then choose "Other" when you make your gift, and you will be prompted to write in your designation.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes, to the extent allowable by law. The NMSU Foundation is a nonprofit IRC Sec. 501(c)(3) organization that is structurally separate from NMSU and exists solely for NMSU's benefit, serving as the preferred channel for private gifts to all areas of the University.

Will I get a receipt for tax purposes?

Yes. We receipt all gifts in accordance with IRS guidelines. If you give online, you will receive a confirmation of your gift via email as well.

Can I send a check
